Artist's Comments

Here's the first page. As this is an informative venture, I thought to include a list of the bones at the left. I did not match the numbers to their corresponding parts in this version as it made things a little cluttered. Think of it as a matching game. You find the parts. :) BTW If anyone knows the names of the specific plates, please let me know. This info isn't easy to come by. And special thanks to Buslady for all her feedback as she's the turtle expert! [link]

Uh, anyways the usual disclaimers...

TMNT belong to Mirage and no mutant turtles were harmed in the making of this art.

I like this piece. It gives us a better understanding of what's underneath the shell. You forgot that Ninja turtles only have three fingers and two toes but other than that, very good. It's so strange I just have to fave it.
:iconamemusashi:
hmm, I Sabacooza already mentioned the toes/fingers bit, but I was wondering, do turtles even have ribs? :O_o: I thought they have the side-bridges that connect the plastron with the shell...

I'm not too keen on this area, (( Have you tried this: [link] )) if so, then I don't know, ask Bishop, he's the one who wants to turn them into tiny, itty bitty bits >m<;

Oh yes, I have thought long and hard but these aren't turtles, they are mutants and the mutation we have to assume is based on human dna. Therefore, with a little bit of artistic license, added ribs. I decided after having them fused with the shell that it would be severly limiting their mobility but also poses a serious threat by having their scaplulas inside their "ribcage" and i can only imagine a dislocation or fracture resulting in the puncturing of a lung. I didn't bode well. YES I know real turtles scapulas are inside along with their internal organs but they aren't acrobatic ninjas are they? No. So well, yeah. The fingers...artistic license. Turtles also have their pelvises attached to their shells. I, however, attached it to the TMNT's spinal column via a sacrum not unlike our own -- this allows for more movement also. I tried to picture them simply sitting and not being able to get up for lack of being able to move their hips at all. Poor, poor turtles. And don't get me started on how they would have walked!!! LOL. So, as they are semi-human AND semi-turtle i have to include a bit of both worlds to make it work ---plus did I mention artistic license? :) Hope that makes sense.

Nah I didn't forget, that's just me being quirky. I have issues with the three fingered thing. I know everyone's gonna give me grief over it. I'm gonna ride it out and maybe relent someday, but not today. :) Thankies muchly!
:iconbuslady:
okay all you guys! turtles IRL have 5 fingers and usually five toes! So she's 100% correct on the digits. Now if they were three toed box turtles, that dont count. haha
